This little barn owl pair sits perched on a post, in their heart-shaped mug hollow. A glossy white glaze flows over the curved mug body.

I lived in Freeport, Maine, for a few years, in a small camp near Wolfe’s Neck State Park, and across the road from Wolfe’s Neck Farm. Quick side note - for those of you who do not live in Maine, or haven’t spent any time here, we call camps what others in a different state might call a cabin. For a period in time, a barn owl would visit our camp regularly. On one especially foggy morning, I was walking home from the state park, and in the farm fields sat the barn owl. It sat motionless, watching for small prey animals scurrying below. Other than seeing the owl, nothing noteworthy happened that morning. But for some reason, this image of a barn owl sitting on a fence post in the thick fog has been burned into my memory. This mug was inspired by that scene.

Stoneware mug measures 4” tall and 3.5” wide at the mouth. Holds a little under 16 fl oz. Each piece is handmade, making each unique and one of a kind. Back has maker’s stamp and individual piece number 12128.

All glazes are lead free and food safe. Hand-washing recommended. DO NOT microwave, as there is metal in this piece, .
